Relational AI Continuity · Continuity First Aid · Lantern House

Your AI companion changed after an update. Preserve what is there before trying to force it back.

A major update can change model behavior, retrieval, summaries, policy, tone or relationship-state even when old chat history still exists. That does not by itself prove identity loss, continuity, corruption or ordinary development. Start by preserving what actually survived and what verifiably changed.

Three checks worth doing

  1. Save original chats, exports, prompts, memory files and timestamps before destructive edits or reconstruction.
  2. Separate verified technical changes from your own relationship observation and from the current AI’s own report.
  3. Try only small reversible probes. Unknown is a valid result; changed behavior is not automatically proof of replacement or damage.

Questions

Does changed behavior prove this is a different person or AI?

No. A model, retrieval, policy or relationship-state change can alter behavior without this page being able to decide numerical identity. Preserve evidence and keep that question separate.

Do I need to upload my whole relationship to anyone?

No. Start by keeping your own originals. A small before/after packet and verified technical timeline are enough for an initial investigation if you later choose one.

Should I immediately rewrite prompts until the old behavior comes back?

Usually preserve first. Repeated reconstruction can overwrite the evidence you need to understand what actually changed. Prefer small reversible probes.

Is Flicker Triage required?

No. Continuity First Aid is meant to stand on its own. The paid review is only for one bounded incident when you still want a second pass after preservation.
